After lots of begging and emails sent to Shelford's secretary in order to get a much needed run to avoid a 6 week eventing drought turning into a 9 week eventing drought, we were finally given the green light and some lovely late times that worked with my work schedule.

We set off from the chilly damp north east coast dressed in long sleeved tops, body warmers and joggers only to get 10 minutes into our journey to find ourselves melting in the front seat of the cab!

To say it was hot at Shelford when we got there was an understatement to the point where I wouldn’t have been surprised to see a rider doing their test in a bikini!

We quickly walked the cross country and decided although H should find it easy it would be the perfect test to try our brakes and the advice previously given by Jamie regarding H’s education to cross country as the course at Shelford is rather twisty.

We had a lovely surprise of one of my supporters- Equibright being there to support us throughout the day which was lovely and H was very spoilt with the extra cuddles and pats he received.

We warmed up for dressage rather well especially when I realised that I’ve had a fit horse in work all year which has recently had a 6 week break from eventing due to no fault of his own (just thanks to the British Weather/ abandoned events!). Sadly the canter in the actual test was all a bit too exciting especially because of those white boards. We managed to stay in the arena this time but his rear end was definitely wiggling to its own tune- H could give Beyonce a run for her money! So our marks suffered we still came out with 38 which is another sub 40 score and considering the fact this outing was more like a first run of the season due to the lengthily time off since our last run I can’t totally complain.

H was rather excited to be jumping which wasn’t really helping me and my rustiness, however, despite a rather ugly round we somehow managed to keep all the poles up (despite our best efforts at the last) for a clear round (it must have been due to our new lucky EquiFeast saddle pad which was having its début outing at Shelford!)! Although the pole basher name may have to be dropped if he keeps this up but I won’t mind that!
And then the fun part. And I’m happy to say we had a rather uneventful easy run. We did take it slow but I was happy with how easy he came back to me so hopefully once Jamie see’s the video he will also agree its an improvement. We finished with 5 time faults but not bothered at all about that!
Picture
Ended up finishing 9th which is exactly where we finished 6 weeks ago so we have started where we finished so to speak which is a rather nice feeling and hopefully with a much smaller break we can only improve on our dressage and continue our work in the sj and xc phases.

We also now we have a matching pair thanks to BE80T series sponsors Equestrian Clearance !

Cancelled that is! First t was Richmond and today after leaving the yard and being 30minutes into our 4hour journey up to Floors I received lots of tweets informing me that Floors to had been abandoned due to the rain.

I must say a huge thank you to everyone on Twitter who informed us as they all helped us to save a fair bit in petrol and a night in the horsebox that wasn’t needed.

So now its back to the drawing board to try and see where we can run next. Unfortunately most events close to us including Bishop Burton and Hexham have balloted so the chance of getting on a waitlist at those events is 0%.

So apologies for the boring update and lack of eventing. Fingers crossed the UK weather changes pronto! I must say a big thank you to Equifeast though for sending another lovely parcel of goodies which defiantly cheered us up today.

Just some pictures taken to brighten up the day.......

Keep an eye out on www.elcequestrian.com over the bank holiday weekend for a Harley update, a picture bonanza post regarding Rolex and a new exciting online competition to win a goodie bag!

Well I find myself packing and the problem I now face is the ultimate girlie question of ‘what to wear?’

But in all seriousness it it a bit of a dilemma, I’ve been watching the weather reports and as always its been changing every day from sunshine highs of 24C predicted to chilly wet conditions and even thunderstorms. I’ve been warned conditions can change very quickly too so I find myself packing everything from rain jackets, tweed and base layers to shorts and polo shirts!

And to make matters worse I received this lovely package from Equifeast
Picture
(Pink and Turquoise… they know me so well!!!) so they obviously have to packed along with my Horsey Hoodies hoodie, my Equibright base layer and my Horse Wardrobe jacket and EHOA gilet plus all my lush
Holland and Cooper Tweed
although that might have to just be donned in NY or the windy city!

Katy Perry achieved 12 changes I must be getting close with all these potential outfits, whats worse is that my back pack that I’ll be using still has a bit of spare room & the suitcase defiantly does!

I’ve also nearly had a big mishap as I was doing all this packing I nearly forgot the one thing that’s the reason I’m going there…. The bridesmaid dress - oopps although I’m sure Dubarry’s would look great in the wedding photos!

Yesterday saw us travel across the country to Eden Valley in Cumbria. This is the second year this event has run and the second time we’ve visited. Unfortunately due to my work commitments I was unable to be moved from the BE80T (which we originally entered in case we had issues from our first two runs) to the BE90, but we decided a confidence round would do Mr H no harm.

We used the Flexineb device on Harley on the Friday and I had to plait him on Saturday night, so I was super happy to have his HorseyHoddies sponsored hood as it saved me picking out his Equibright bedding from his mane on Sunday morning!

Our dressage this season so far hasn’t been ideal but the scores have been showing promise. Today was no exception the trend but we did manage to stay within the arena this time unlike at Beckwithshaw! But with two cheeky bucks in two separate movements I wasn’t particularly pleased especially as it was a test which I feel doesn‘t suit Harley due to lots of walk movements. However, it must have looked very different to how it felt and we were awarded 35.5 in a section where the judge must be commended for using a wide range of scores (lowest 22 highest 54!), but again still room for improvement.

Show jumping was again on the surface and actually rode much better than I thought. Harley being Harley hit an upright to deny us once again of a clear round so the Pole Basher lives up to his reputation!
The cross country appeared to be causing carnage despite not really appearing any different from the previous year. Having gone clear last year but with lots of time faults, I was feeling confident but a reminder from Charlotte Ridley and Louise Smales who were the BE80T trainers for the day reminded me to not take things for granted and ride the course. I needn’t have worried though Harley jumped round extremely confidently in a great rhythm with no issues and appeared super focused and listening thanks I‘m sure to his EquiFeast Winning Edge and Optimax (How many people can say they go XC with their full TB in a snaffle!)! Although we did nearly have an issue thanks to a spectator stood in front of the final fence but luckily she heard my yells to move and apologised for being in my way after we had finished which was nice of her.
In the video excuse the language of my camera man.
We ended up being only one of four inside the time in the section, yet we were 20 seconds inside the time without really pushing so not sure why the time appeared to be so difficult to achieve? But I’m not complaining as our good round ensured our first BE rosette of the season and we finished in 9th place. So that deserved a picture of Mr H.... Think we'll have to win more blue rosettes as they match his KM Elite Headcollar which we got from The Horse Wardrobe.
Unfortunately my section had the majority of clears out of the 3 BE80 sections and if in one of the other sections my score could have ensured a 3rd but again that’s a “If only…” moment and other factors could have been different.

I must say I also learnt a lesson in if you decide to clean something please remember to re-pack it! This relates to me forgetting my studs luckily though Coltsfoot were there selling SupaStuds so no harm done and at least now we have a few extras!

Harley returned home and had an Apple Likit Bar and once again told everyone how amazing he was and sure enough everyone ignored him!

Also got to meet up with lots of friends, some old, some new and even some from Europe! I must also commend the Eden Valley team on lots of improvements from last years event. There’s still a few areas that could be improved on but over all it was a lovely friendly event.

A late entry was put in for Breckenbrough (now one of our local events) as I thought I was working all weekend only for the boss to randomly give me a full Saturday off ! !
Luckily it was the same test as Draycott and decided to up the Optimax by 2 spoonfuls 2 days before to see if that was our ‘magic number’ We knew it would be case of trial and error until we find the right level of calm/ energy and it appears after our test we’re still trying to discover it…..
Not a great test far too fast- I’m finally getting after him/ asking him to do a bit more but not really working him/ still babying him but as you can see in the video he does have a quirky streak so I hope you can see why I’m like that (ticking bomb syndrome) but managed a 39
Our show jumping round wasn't great so I was rather happy with just the one pole on a rather hilly course.
So onto XC and after our Draycott issues with steps (freak out/ hesitation cost us a placing ) I was rather worried about fence 4 being 2 steps which for some reason appeared to be causing carnage from the commentary. Rest of course fine black flags for corner at 11 and trakena at 16 but knew if we got to those with out any issues we wouldn’t need them as he is a horse that gets better with confidence.
And all I can say is he was a different horse followed Jamies advice to SJ and get at him early and it worked
Must say a big thank you to the commentary team for mentioning my supporters numerous times during the XC (must say it helped that there was only 2 of us on course) but still really appreciated along with all the friendly helpers/ volunteers!

So a clear inside the time with no dramas left us on 43 and a happier mummy who just needs to sort the dosage out before our next test!

Firstly apologies for the lack of videos and pictures especially when referring to the part about our first event at Draycott but sadly the photographer has not published any pictures yet.

So our second attempt at Jump Training went much better than the first! In fact our first attempt was so bad that the organiser remembered us!

But in the BE80 we got a style mark of 30.5 with just a pole down in each round to finish a respectable 11th.

In the 90 Harley appeared to jump much better and respect the jumps and didn’t seem phased at all by the spooky fillers that were put in place. In his first round he just touched one pole but by the second round he felt a little tired and had the last two down but over all I was extremely proud of him.

Here’s a video from the first round of the BE90
So on Wednesday we went to Draycott in Derbyshire a 3 hour drive which o be fair is quite normal for us. The sun was out shining and made for a lovely day. We walked the course before Dressage, however, that didn’t go without drama when a young lady fell off in front of us. Luckily the horse stood still despite her Point Two air jacket going off and after she caught her breath she took her jacked off and managed to get back on. I however had to do a detour to the secretaries tent before finishing the course!

Well Harley was extremely excited to be at a party on grass and showed it straight away via doing a rodeo show when coming off the horse box ramp! So memo to self up the EquiFeast Optimax even more before our next event!

He was still quite excited in the warm up and through the test. To be honest I thought he was too tense and was rather disappointed but it must have looked better than it felt and we were awarded 36 to put us right in the mix!

The show jump warm up was manic to say the least so luckily I held off tacking up until they were asking for the last few to turn up. Again drama found us though when the girl before me fell off in the ring and her horse escaped the arena after jumping the judges car! Luckily though Harley got over the excitement and just touched one pole for 4 faults- believe me not bad for him!

So onto the cross country…. Following our lesson with Mr Atkinson I donned some spurs and remembered I had a whip! We set off very well with no issues until fence 5- two steps on a curve heading towards a pond. When I walked the course I knew this was going to be our ‘issue’ fence out of the whole course as it was quite early on and Harley has had a tendancy of scaring himself via jumping all the steps in one go before. Sadly I was right and he hesitated with a shuffle/ step back so we gained 20 penalties. The reset for the course though he made feel extremely easy which I was over the mood with and I can forgive a baby moment. I knew after that moment there was no point in putting our foot down so expected time faults.

Draycott were very late doing results we stayed as long as we could but knowing we had another 3 hours until home left. So imagine my shock when looking at the results that we gained 40 penalties XC- no idea where/ how I could have gained this. I’ve contacted BE who are looking into it but unfortunately the way BE is you have to question these results at the event so its probably not going to change despite it not affecting the results!

On the positive my horse is unaware of this issue and I know its not the case so thinking positive on the run up to Eden we have asked to be moved from the BE80 to the BE90 class!

We also had a lovely visit from Equibright yesterday and I'm very excited about things to come so watch this space!

And to brighten this blog a pretty picture of us with our www.thehorsewardrobe.co.uk sponsored saddle cloth after show jumping at Draycott and I'm wearing my www.horseyhoodies.co.uk jods too!
