The tide of bad luck......

Its been a rather quiet time for us recently. Sadly a few days after Burgham H became lame. Due to his poor confirmation with his feet (sadly he’s a typical TB in that way) and the hard ground his feet have deteriorated and it became one minor thing after another. These problems included; bruised heels and soles, crumbling of feet and development heading towards collapsed heels if action was not taken promptly. Luckily some rest and remedial shoeing  have appeared to work and things are heading back to normal. Looking at the positives I’m very grateful that it was minor injuries which we can hopefully prevent in the future via work with our farrier over the winter.
Another reason we have been so quiet is sadly because two weeks ago we got flooded.
We experienced very heavy rainfall which due to the hard ground had no where to go. I was at work when it happened and didn’t realise how bad it was until trying to get home and meeting rather deep floods on route.

Every access to our village was closed due to flooding, damage to roads and fallen trees. And to add to the problems I’d been directed to an area where I was stuck with the dilemma that it was either sleep in the car or find a hotel. I was grateful I chose the later when I found out that the roads were still closed the next morning until 11am! I must say though how grateful I am for Twitter/ social media as it was so helpful when trying to find out which route was safer/ where to go as well as getting some lovely support from others at a time where I was in a bit of panic.
Sadly we had some damage to the house which was mainly the carpets.

The barn  was also affected; luckily the stables are built on the highest part of the village so the horses were safe but water managed to creep in and affect some tack and rugs. The worst effected being one old saddle, my EquiFeast and Horsey Hoodies numnahs, my Ecogold pads, as well as girth sleeves and my Horse Wardrobe and BRC championships rug. All of which (excluding the saddle) are now at the dry cleaners so will hopefully be salvages and back better than ever soon! Our other issue has been the access roads- to the village and also our own private drive, which has made leaving the yard difficult.

The stubble fields we also use for fitness work are also still off bounds 2 weeks later- still showing signs of standing water!

But luckily were all safe, and in comparison to others we got off lightly and should be back out ASAP.
