We set off on Thursday for Camp at Parkend Equestrian Centre in Northumberland. As always the hospitality was great from Charlotte and her team. We enjoyed a morning of flat work followed by an afternoon of grid work before. The riders all then left their horses for a well deserved rest before hitting the indoor swimming pool and Jacuzzi followed by a lovely mean, a few drinks and of course a good gossip. The next day we tackled skinnies and corners before jumping a course.
Here’s a quick snippet from one of our sessions:
We were 1st to go in our section and in fact the 2nd horse to run at the event. The positive was we had great ground (a worry due to all the rain the course had received on the build up to the event).
Sadly though this meant that the dressage judge marked extremely harshly - as I would say she wasn’t quite warmed up so we had a boring sheet of virtually all 6’s so a rather dismal score of 41.5 that really wasn’t deserved and if we did that test as the 4th rider in the arena I’d be 100% sure the percentage would be lower- awhh well its the luck of the draw I guess!
Show jumping was again rather disappointing after jumping so well at camp I was really upset to have 2 fences down. We’re putting it down to lack of practice on grass so hopefully the ground will dry out soon so we can get some fences out at home to practice with.
But I must say Harley made up for his poor show jumping big style in the cross country. H made it feel very easy and finished 20 seconds inside the time without being pushed. Our only blip being at the smallest fence (a tiny log after the water- caught on camera of course) when I pushed and he chipped another stride in, but we got over with no harm done.
My StudShu’s proved to be a life saver due to our tight times and saved us from the tedious task that is studding when you remove them in order to stand the horse on the lorry and then require them back on for the next phase- with StudShu you avoid this situation!
I’m happy to say my supporters The Horse Wardrobe, Equibright and Horsey Hoodies all got a mention when I was running XC and you can hear their shout outs in the videos
Our next outing was due to be Stafford but we’ve just heard today that once again the rain has forced another event to cancel! So our next outing is now the Riding Club Area Dressage Qualifier on Sunday- fingers crossed we go one better than we did at the Show Jumping Qualifier!
