H has always suffered from dry skin patches and every time we reach this time of year, (when he's between summer and winter coats) he develops scabby patches of skin.
After being seen by the vet before, who can confirmed it is nothing to worry about and purely a cosmetic concern, we have since seeked a solution.
We have tried Numerous shampoos, lotions and potions, all of which appear to have an affect but equally never seem to totally eliminate the problem. So after recommendations from Fred and Rowena Cook at Equine Training and Management, to try the KBF99 grooming range we thought we had little to loose!
The KBF99 brushes are unique in that the KBF99 coats the plastic of the brush with molecular strands which when positively charged when brushing a coat, attack and kill negative cells such as bacteria.
At first I was rather sceptical- could a brush really do this? And if it could would it provide a comfortable Grooming experience for the horse?
Well after trialling the body brush for 2 months now I can fully recommend these brushes! H's coat is looking shinier than ever (which many people have commented on recently). And the scabby patches of skin we normally experience by the dozen have so far been limited to just one area (and that patch is improving by the day!).
I admit the KBF99 range of brushes aren't the cheapest on the market (the body brush retails at £13.50 and available from www.thehorsewardrobe.co.uk). But compare that to the potential vets bill if your horse sadly caught Strangles.... I know which I'd prefer!
Infact we have purchased a second brush for the purpose of remaining in the horsebox so when a shows we can hopefully brush our horses off and reduce cross contamination and the spread of disease in the equine community.
